Solemn ceremony aboard HMS Belfast

On 19 October a solemn ceremony aboard HMS Belfast, which during World War 2 participated in the Arctic convoys, marked the unveiling of new ship masts built by Russian companies. The event was attended by HRH Duke of Edinburgh and Sergey Naryshkin, head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, as well as British Arctic convoys veterans and a group of Russian veterans from Archangelsk.

HMS Belfast fired her cannons nine times and a prayer was offered by the Church of England chaplain and Orthodox Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh. Russian Naval and Civil ensigns were hoisted on the new masts alongside Union Jack.

HRH Duke of Edinburgh and the Director of HMS Belfast were presented with commemorative medals to mark the 65th Victory anniversary.

Further during the day Mr Naryshkin held meetings with the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister Edward Llewellyn, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Sir Peter Ricketts and visited arts gallery – charitable foundation Calvert22.

Ambassador Yakovenko visits University of Oxford

On 15 February Russian Ambassador to UK, Mr Alexander Yakovenko visited the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. Mr Yakovenko met with Professor Ngaire Woods, Dean of the School, and gave a talk about Russian foreign policy to the students and visitors of the event. Q&A session followed.

Presentation of the book with the stories of the Arctic Convoys Veterans – "Cold seas and warm friendships"

On 13 of February a lecture on the book with stories of veterans of Arctic Convoys «Cold seas and warm friendships», released with the support of Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh on the 75th anniversary of the first Arctic Convoy "Dervish" in August 2016, was held in the National Library of Scotland.

Diplomats’ Day 2017 in London

On 10 February the Russian embassy hosted a reception to mark the professional holiday of the Russian diplomatic service. A number of Ambassadors, FCO officials, representatives of diplomatic corps and media attended. Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko and former UK Ambassador to Moscow Sir Anthony Brenton addressed the guests.

On 7 February the exhibition "Revolution: Russian Art 1917-1932" marking one hundred years from the 1917 revolution in Russia was launched at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Russian Embassy in London hosts visits

In the run-up to the Russian Diplomats' Day celebrated on 10 February, the Embassy hosted several group visits: students from the Moscow and Kazan Universities, on a trip organized by Eurasian Club System, familiarized themselves with the work of the Embassy and had a Q&A session; committee members of the London International Model United Nations (LIMUN) spoke with us on Russia's foreign policy and Embassy's participation in LIMUN; and teachers, students and their parents from The London School of Russian Language and Literature toured the Ambassador's residence.

About Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov visit to manufacturing facilities of Terex Trucks in Motherwell

On 1st February 2017, the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov has visited the haulers and dump trucks manufacturing facilities of Terex Trucks. At the working meeting with the General Manager of Terex Trucks Mr Paul Douglas, the prospects of cooperation with Russian partners and further development of company’s business in Russia have been explored.

Burns Supper in Motherwell&Wishaw Rotary Club

On January, 26th Consul General of Russia Andrey A.Pritsepov took part in the traditional Burns Supper, which was held in Motherwell&Wishaw Rotary Club. As the honorary guest of the event Consul General proposed an Immortal Memory Toast underlining the versatility of Robert Burns’ legacy and the great interest of Russian people towards the work of Scotland’s national poet, whose literary heritage is known and appreciated in Russia due to a talented translation of Samuil Marshak.

On 27 January 2017 a ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial near the Imperial War Museum marked the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
