Presentation of the book with the stories of the Arctic Convoys Veterans – "Cold seas and warm friendships"

On 13 of February a lecture on the book with stories of veterans of Arctic Convoys «Cold seas and warm friendships», released with the support of Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh on the 75th anniversary of the first Arctic Convoy "Dervish" in August 2016, was held in the National Library of Scotland.
Co-author of the book, the vice-chairman of the "Scotland-Russia Forum" Commander Dairmid Gunn described the heroic pages in the history of our countries and shared his personal experience of interviewing the veterans while preparing the anniversary edition.
It was noted at the event that this and other actions on the subject –is part of the long-term systematic work by the Russian Consulate General in Edinburgh as well as many enthusiasts in Scotland and Russia to build the lasting legacy of the Convoys. A charitable foundation that will support veterans, collect funds for the construction of a museum and a Memorial dedicated to the Convoys, development of tourist routes in memorable places associated with the history of the Convoys is is to be established soon.
Among other guests the presentation was attended by the relatives of the Veterans, as well as director of the Russian Arctic Convoy Project in Loch-Ewe Mr George Milne.
At the event donations for charitable activities to promote the legacy of the Arctic Convoys were collected.




Ushakov Medal presentation ceremony

After a three-year search, the Consulate General was able to contact the sons of now late Scottish Veteran of the Arctic Convoys Mr Graham Wilson, who had been awarded the Ushakov Medal. This was made possible thanks to the assistance of the chairman of the Russian Arctic Convoys Club 21 Ms Anna C Mckessock. Upon finding an article about Mr Wilson in the archive of a small local periodical Kilin News (from the year 2005) with the help of journalists from the newspaper she contacted Veteran’s relatives and informed them of the high award.


Memorable gifts are presented to Scottish Veteran of Arctic Convoys

On 4h April 2017, the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov handed over to a WWII Veteran who took part in the Arctic Convoys, Mr Eric Wallace Lloyd, a set of memorable gifts created on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the first Arctic Convoy calling Archangelsk.

On 3 April Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko visited Natural & Organic Products Europe, one of the world’s most important food industry shows, hosted at London’s ExCel.


About visit to headquarters of PST GROUP

On 3rd April 2017 during a business trip to Glasgow the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov, visited the headquarters (and manufacturing facility) of PST Group and met with the company’s Sales Director Mr Alex Nicol in order to discuss prospects of PTS Group developing economic ties with Russian partners. Exchange of opinions took place in connection with company’s potential for developing operations in Russia.


Vitaliy Naumkin speech at the Russian Embassy

On April, 3 Vitaly Naumkin, President of the Institute for Oriental studies (Russia), Senior Political Advisor to United Nations and Arab League Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, gave a talk on “Crisis of nation-states in the Middle East: a view from Russia” for MPs and Lords, diplomats, journalists, representatives of business community, think-tank experts at the Russian Embassy.


Russian community activists meet in London

On 26 March the Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo in London hosted the 9th annual conference of Russian diaspora in UK. The 70 delegates of 40 organizations from 18 areas of Britain discussed the future of Russian schools, support for small businesses, working with British authorities and other communities as well as diaspora print and online media. Representatives of Russian communities from France and Belgium and of the British authorities also attended as guests. The delegates elected the new Russian community council, now chaired by Olegs Sotnicenko, and supported the creation of an Advisory Board, composed of prominent personalities of the Russian diaspora and British society.


Russian sailor remembered in Plymouth

Centenary of death of the First World War Russian sailor Petr Ogorelkov who served at “Askold” cruiser was marked on 18 March in Ford Park, the oldest cemetery in Plymouth which also has Crimea war graves and the grave of another "Askold" sailor.


"Fabergé in London" book edited by Kieran McCarthy launched in London

On 24 March "Fabergé in London" book edited by Kieran McCarthy was launched in London at the Residence of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation.


Annual Russian Dinner in Perth

On 14 March 2016 diplomats of the Consulate General of Russia in Edinburgh took part in the annual Russian dinner in Perth arranged by the Friends of Pskov Association (Perth and Pskov are twin cities for more than 25 years).


On the opening of the UN Model at the George Watson’s College

On 10-12 March 10th Anniversary Model of the UN was held in Edinburgh at George Watson’s College. The MUN General Assembly was inaugurated on March, 11th by the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Andrey A. Pritsepov, who spoke about the fundamental principles of the UN work and the importance of the organization in the modern world, and shared his own diplomatic experience with the delegates.
