Question: US President Barack Obama has just said he hopes President-elect Donald Trump will continue to stand up to Russia where it is allegedly deviating from international norms. What do you think about this recommendation? Sergey Lavrov: This is regrettable, because when you conclude your presidential term you should answer questions and offer recommendations on positive aspects regarding solutions to America’s domestic problems, of which there are many, and the development of foreign relations. I do not think it is good to try to ensure continuity on negative issues.

There are increasing risks posed by terrorism and extremism, regional conflicts and migration crisis. "Information wars" are incited in order to undermine sovereign states. Some countries pursue the same nefarious purpose by resorting increasingly often to illegal unilateral trade and financial sanctions challenging the exclusive prerogative of the United Nations Security Council.

According to incoming reports, the humanitarian situation in the Republic of Yemen is steadily deteriorating due to the bloody domestic conflict. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O'Brien said at a briefing in the UN Security Council on October 31that over 10,000 people have been killed as a result of hostilities. About 21.2 million Yemenis, or 80 percent of the country’s population, need urgent relief. Fourteen million people are undernourished, while seven million are on the verge of starvation. The number of domestically displaced persons has exceeded three million and the number of refugees is over 300,000.
