02.03.2017 - Statement by Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov at the Plenary Meeting of the Conference on Disarmament, Geneva, 28 February 2017

I am pleased to have the opportunity to address such a representative audience. The fact that high ranking officials of Member States as well as of non-Members consider it to be an honor to speak at the Conference on Disarmament (CD) proves the authority, relevance and promising future of this forum when it comes to strengthening and improving the international legal framework that the system of global strategic stability and international security is built upon. There is no doubt that each State wishes to be heard. Each member of international community is seeking to ensure its national security interests are firmly secured and do not slide into dependency on instant political considerations. In our view it gives a special value to the CD, where all participants can hold an insightful dialogue on equal terms dealing with the most sensitive security issues and seek solutions to complex problems of arms control, disarmament and WMD non-proliferation.

01.03.2017 - Response by the Press Secretary of the Embassy to RIA Novosti on UK military presence in Ukraine

Question: What’s your assessment of the UK military presence in Ukraine? Press Secretary: Needless to say, current build-up of the UK military presence in Ukrainian territory, as well as its military activity in the region as a whole raises many questions. First and foremost – how all these steps correspond to London’s declared commitment to a political settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, as well as to the "spirit and letter" of the Minsk agreements? We are not convinced that they contribute to the implementation of the "Package of measures" agreed in "Normandy format" and signed by the parties to the conflict, aimed at an early cessation of hostilities and the beginning of the negotiating process

28.02.2017 - State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin’s answer to a media question

Question: A statement has been made by Tbilisi the other day that Russia may withdraw its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the future. Can you comment on it? Grigory Karasin: Indeed, such speculations are not uncommon. It is difficult to see where they come from. This may be a clumsy attempt to encourage mistrust towards Russia among our neighbours. The Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia are independent sovereign states with which the Russian Federation enjoys neighbourly, friendly and allied relations. This is our firm and unshakeable position. We would like everyone to remember this once and for all.
