RUSSIA AND LGBT RIGHTS

Any discrimination, including on grounds of sexual orientation, is prohibited by Russian law.Russia belives that it is unreasonable to develop specific legal documents to protect the rights of sexual minorities, taking into account their reliable protection by the general anti-discrimination provisions of universal treaties in the human rights field, to which Russia is party.

The local laws adopted in several Russian cities and providing for administrative responsibility for the promotion of homosexuality and pedophilia among minors do not interfere with the international obligations of Russia, fit completely into the Russian legislation framework and efforts to adequately protect the rights and interests of children in the Russian Federation.

Russia considers it unacceptable to aggressively promote a certain lifestyle and value set which may offend a considerable share of population, under the pretext of protecting sexual minorities.
