Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 2-4 September Attaché of the Embassy Vadim Retyunskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Ernest CLUTTERBUCK, Mr John KNAPP, Mr Malcolm PETRIE, Mr Edward YOUNG, Mr Jack COLLINS and Mr Charles PENGELLY, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Kenneth BARRON, Mr Eric Frazer ROBINSON and Mr Terence Newey COMMINS, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

About presentation of Ushakov Medal and a personalized officer wrist watch “VOSTOK”

During a ceremony on 30th August 2016 the Ushakov Medal and a personalized officer wrist watch “VOSTOK” were presented to Veteran of the Arctic Convoys from England Mr John Clayburn, who arrived from England in order to attend the Gala Reception on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the First Arctic Convoy with the codename Operation Dervish to Archangelsk.

On 30th August 2016 during a presentation ceremony at the Consulate General the Ushakov Medal and a personalized officer wrist watch “VOSTOK” were presented to Veteran Mr Richard Butterfield from Newcastle upon Tyne.

On 30th August 2016 the Consul General Mr Andrey Pritsepov presented the Ushakov Medal and a personalized officer wrist watch “VOSTOK” to an English Veteran of the Arctic Convoys Mr Richard Aston.

Princess Anne visits Arkhangelsk

During her visit to Arkhangelsk Princess Anne, accompanied by the chairman of the Russian State Duma, Sergei Naryshkin, visited the exhibition "Dervish: Caravans of Victory" at the North Sea Museum and presented a UK state award – the Arctic Star Medal – to the museum.

Arkhangelsk Commemorates 75th Anniversary of First Arctic Convoy

The city of Arkhangelsk is hosting a series of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Allied Lend-Lease convoy to provide military supplies and food to the USSR in order to bolster the Soviet war effort against the Axis powers.

On 23rd August the Ushakov Medal and a personalized officer wrist watch “VOSTOK” of the Arctic Convoy Veteran Mr William Joseph Logan was presented to his widow and son at the Consulate General.
