Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Mr Cameron congratulated Mr Putin on his inauguration as President of Russia.
On 27 April 2012, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov met Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Russia Tim Barrow to exchange opinions on some topical issues on the international and bilateral agenda, including the Iranian nuclear programme.
On 12 April 2012, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Moscow Tim Barrow to discuss topical issues of Russian-British relations, including the forthcoming contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries later this year.
On 21 March 2012, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov visited London for consultations at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office on a number of international issues on the UN agenda.
On 1 March 2012, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov met Tim Barrow, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Moscow. The parties exchanged their opinions on topical international matters, including the Iranian nuclear programme and the situation around NATO’s plans to place a missile defence shield in Europe.
On 27 February 2012 Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko received Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland to Moscow Tim Barrow to exchange opinions on relevant international issues, problems of pan-European cooperation, including the situation at the OSCE and the European Union, as well as prospects of cooperation in the framework of the NATO-Russia Council and partnership dialogue with the EU.

Russian scientists are planning to use robotic probes to reach water layers at the bottom of an ancient sub-glacial lake in Antarctica in 2013-2014, Russian scientist Sergey Bulat said.
On 14 February 2012, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tim Barrow to exchange opinions on key problems of the Middle East and North Africa with the emphasis on the situation in Syria and around it.
On 8 February 2012 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov spoke over the phone with the UK Foreign Secretary William Hague at the initiative of the British side.
During the conversation the ministers discussed the situation around Syria, including the recent visit of Sergey Lavrov and Mikhail Fradkov to Damascus. They also looked into some issues of Russian-British relations, in particular the forthcoming contacts between the Russian MFA and the FCO.
