04.07.2015 - International community should concentrate on fighting our common threat – terrorism (by Ambassador Yakovenko, for RT)

An objective analysis of the current situation and contacts with countries of the MENA region reveal growing concern both in the region and beyond over the terrorist activities of the ISIS and other radical groups practicing violent extremism. ISIS is spilling into Afghanistan and looking at Central Asia. As available evidence shows, acts of terror in Europe are also directly linked with ISIS. Therefore, the common interest in the dace of this global danger should prevail over geopolitical schemes and national self-interest. Differences can always be settled by way of dialogue.

03.07.2015 - BRICS: New way of partnership (by Ambassador Yakovenko, for RT)

BRICS is a product of the dynamic development of globalization and new centres of economic growth and political influence. It aligns interests of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and consolidates their positions in building a fairer and more balanced international order that reflects a polycentric nature of today’s international political, economic and cultural affairs. Critics of BRICS prefer to underline the differences of its member-states in economic, historical, cultural and civilizational terms that allegedly prevent them from building a sustainable XX century entangling alliance. I would like to disappoint them.

03.07.2015 - Climate Change: Russian factsheet

Climate change is one of major global challenges in the 21st century, which goes beyond the scope of pure science and represents a complex interdisciplinary problem that covers environmental, economic, and social aspects of the sustainable development in the world. Russia takes part in developing collective measures of the world community for mitigating the human-made impact on climate. International cooperation in responding to the global and regional challenges of climate change is aimed at finding efficient solutions of the problem with due account of global factors and national interests.

25.06.2015 - Waterloo and Vienna: learning from history (by Ambassador Yakovenko for RT)

These days, as the celebrations of the Waterloo 200th anniversary have just concluded in Europe and Britain, it is time to reflect on the legacy of the turbulent era that ended in 1815.

24.06.2015 - Protecting the rights of refugees is one of the priorities of Russia’s foreign policy (by Ambassador Yakovenko)

This year we also mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the most brutal and destructive disaster in human history that caused tremendous global refugee migration. Unfortunately, wars and armed conflicts persist in the 21st century, leading to the exodus of millions of people who are trying to protect their right to life and a reasonable existence. We can see this in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria and now in Ukraine. The UN estimates the number of refugees and people in refugee-like situations at almost 60 million worldwide.

22.06.2015 - The West is mean to Russia, but let’s be friends (by Ambassador Yakovenko for The Telegraph)

Russia and Britain have joint experience and interests, which can be a good starting point for improving relations.

21.06.2015 - British view of the Russian foreign policy: misunderstanding or distortion? (by Ambassador Yakovenko for RT)

When one listens to what the British officials and media pundits have to say about Russia's policy towards Ukraine, it is hard not to wonder if it is a simple misunderstanding or a deliberate distortion of facts. The public in this country is intentionally led to believe that it is Russia that violates territorial integrity of Ukraine and intend to occupy and absorb Eastern Ukraine.

20.06.2015 - Supporting closer ties between European Union and Eurasian Union (by Ambassador Yakovenko for RT)

As Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his interview to the Italian newspaper “Il Corriere della Sera” on the 6th of June, we have always proposed a serious relationship to the Europe.

18.06.2015 - Why is US building up arms in Eastern Europe? (by Ambassador Yakovenko)

US media have recently reported the White House’s plans to position arms stockpiles in NATO’s eastern European countries for the purpose of rotational training.

06.06.2015 - Tackling terrorism requires genuinely collective approach (by Ambassador Yakovenko, for RT)

The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) is advancing in Iraq and Syria. Its groups are settling in some regions of Libya, there are problems in Lebanon, and there is even evidence of an ISIS presence in Afghanistan. In parallel, other terrorist groups are stepping up their actions, including al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula. Meanwhile, the US-led coalition continues delivering air strikes, but it seems like these actions have not yet had an impact on the ISIS’ ability to further expand its cross-border “caliphate”.
