On May 30, Berlin hosted a meeting of Normandy Four deputy foreign ministers to further discuss a resolution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin represented Russia. Coordinators from the Minsk Contact Group and its working subgroups were also invited to attend. The parties reviewed the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements of February 12, 2015.

On May 29, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry and Defence Minister Sidqi Subhi in Cairo. The ministers were received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who noted that Egypt’s priority was developing and strengthening mutual friendship and fruitful partnership with the friendly country of Russia. Mr el-Sisi emphasised that the Russian-Egyptian 2+2 consultations, which were launched with his personal participation in November 2013, convincingly showed that the multifaceted ties between the two countries had reached a strategic level.

Let me once again express my condolences over the deadly terrorist attack in Minya Province. We know Egypt’s firmness in the fight against terrorism, and we are united in this struggle. I hope that we will strengthen our joint efforts here and expand the counterterrorist fight, which must be a common cause in which all stand united against this evil without applying double standards.
