Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko’s remarks at the opening of the Art Russe Masters exhibition (Banqueting House, 20 June 2016)

Projects related to Russian art enjoying increasing popularity worldwide. Interest towards Russian art as an important part of the world art is growing steadily.
One of such projects – the exhibition of Russian masters in the UK – will be held in such historical and symbolic locations as the Banqueting House and the Tower of London.
The organizer of the event is the Art Russe fund. They have a mission – popularization of Russian art worldwide, and this mission is truly welcome. As a result of hard work of such funds international audience has the opportunity to understand Russian art, assess the talent of Russian artists and their contribution to world culture.
Exhibition "Legacy of the Second World War in Russian art" was held here in London at Saatchi Gallery a year ago. It was attended by more than 30 thousand visitors. In 2014 the first exhibition of Soviet artist of the sixties, Victor Popkov, was held at Somerset House with a great success.
One of the latest significant projects related to Russian art was an exhibition of Soviet artists in Abu Dhabi. It attracted so great an interest in the Middle East that it had to be extended.
Today’s opening of the Russian art gallery is a logical step in the developing interest towards Russian art school. And I am especially pleased that it happens here, in the UK. Opening of the gallery will allow to find additional common ground between our nations as well as to enhance cultural exchanges. Such is the power of interpenetration of cultures, promoting mutual understanding and respect of each other.

Has London raised this matter with Moscow? Has the British side provided any evidence? A.: This is not the first statement of this sort made by the UK’s Chief of the Defence Staff, General Carter, and it certainly needs to be considered in the context of the large-scale anti-Russian propaganda campaign launched by the British government.

01.11.2019 - Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich’s interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, October 29, 2019

Question: Mr Lukashevich, I would like to start with a difficult question. The people seldom understand the role and importance of such institutions as the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). They believe that it is all talk and little action, apart from that of the adoption of resolutions. This is partly true. Are there too many international organisations that are hardly having any influence on realities? And it also costs a fortune to maintain them.
