28.06.2019 - On entry to the Russian Federation with children

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of Russian citizens applying for visas for the purpose of travelling together with their children who hold passports of other States, but who are recognized as citizens of the Russian Federation by birth. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that a child shall acquire citizenship of the Russian Federation by birth provided that at the time of his/her birth the only parent indicated in the birth certificate was a Russian citizen. The child does not need any visa in this case. Notwithstanding the child’s age (under 18 years), it is necessary to register him/her as a citizen of the Russian Federation and obtain a Russian passport for such a child. To avoid any possible misunderstanding or cost implications relating to a trip to Russia, we recommend to get the relevant consultations and all the necessary documents issued in advance.
