On E-visas for Visiting Russia’s Saint Petersburg and its Surrounding Region (Leningradskaya Oblast)

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 18 July 2019 No. 347, starting from 1 October 2019 electronic visas are introduced for visiting Saint Petersburg and its surrounding region (Leningradskaya Oblast). E-visas may be obtained online at http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/.

An e-visa only allows a single entry (for business, tourism or a humanitarian visit) and stay only on the territory of Saint Petersburg and its surrounding region (Leningradskaya Oblast) for a maximum term of 8 days.

There will be no consular fees for issuing electronic visas.

The list of countries which citizens can apply for electronic visas, as well as border crossings through which foreign citizens can enter the Russian Federation having e-visas, will be approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No.347 dated 18 July 2019, starting from 1 October 2019 nationals of 53 foreign states shall have the right to obtain single entry business, humanitarian and tourist visas for visiting Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region in the form of an electronic document (e-visa) on the special website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/).

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of Russian citizens applying for visas for the purpose of travelling together with their children who hold passports of other States, but who are recognized as citizens of the Russian Federation by birth. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that a child shall acquire citizenship of the Russian Federation by birth provided that at the time of his/her birth the only parent indicated in the birth certificate was a Russian citizen. The child does not need any visa in this case. Notwithstanding the child’s age (under 18 years), it is necessary to register him/her as a citizen of the Russian Federation and obtain a Russian passport for such a child. To avoid any possible misunderstanding or cost implications relating to a trip to Russia, we recommend to get the relevant consultations and all the necessary documents issued in advance.
