The recent DPRK’s missile launch caused serious concerns in the international community. These actions contradict relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Meanwhile, to avoid further escalation we all should maintain calm, renounce provocative moves or belligerence of all types and work actively together to defuse tension. Re-launching a dialogue on the comprehensive resolution of the problems is the only way to a sustainable settlement.

25 years ago several independent states, formerly Republics of the Soviet Union, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Belorussia, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, signed the Collective Security Treaty. 10 years later they established the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). Even this chronology shows that it was not an easy process. It took time for the member-states to assess their own security interests and requirements, as well as the overall security picture in the region they share.

05.07.2017 - Joint statement by the Russian and Chinese foreign ministries on the Korean Peninsula’s problems

The Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China are the Korean Peninsula’s neighbours, therefore the development of the situation in the region concerns the national interests of both countries. Russia and China will closely coordinate their efforts in order to promote a complex solution to the Korean Peninsula’s problems, including that of the nuclear issue, for the sake of achieving a lasting peace and stability in Northeast Asia. In the spirit of strategic cooperation the foreign ministries of Russia and China (hereinafter referred to as Parties) state the following: 1. The Parties are seriously worried by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s statement of July 4, 2017 about a ballistic missile launch and consider this statement unacceptable and in disharmony with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

04.07.2017 - Press release on the start of the 40th Session of the FAO Conference

On July 3, the 40th session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) opened in Rome. The Conference is held on a biennial basis and is the highest governing body of the FAO. More than 1,000 delegates from 171 countries, including 85 ministers and senior officials, arrived at the FAO headquarters. Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachyov leads Russia’s inter-agency delegation. A delegation of the Eurasian Economic Commission is attending the session as an observer.

03.07.2017 - Consul General Pritsepov visits St Andrews

On 28 of June Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov visited St Andrews and met with the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the famous University of St Andrews professor Sally Mapstone. They discussed issues of developing ties with higher educational institutions in Russia and prospects for cooperation in the field of innovation and sustainable development.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m happy that Scythians: Warriors of ancient Siberia exhibition is gaining momentum. We have all seen the excellent teaser reviews in the papers. They are a good sign, but one always expects world class events from the State Hermitage and the British Museum. The public expectations are high and no doubt they will be met.
