Digital Barbecue 2016 at the Russian Embassy

On 9 December 2016 the Russian Embassy in London held a traditional annual event for social media researchers, bloggers, members of the Diplomatic Club and journalists. The topic for discussion was "Hacking the algorithm: getting your message across through the social media bubble". Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko addressed the guests with opening remarks. The panelists shared their views on media in the age of “post-truth” and took part in the twitter survey. The insightful discussion was followed by a reception.

On awarding the Honorary Diploma to the Director of the Russian Centre in Scotland "Haven", head of the Russian Language School at the centre "Haven" Nina Ivashinenko

On 2 of December 2016 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov in a solemn atmosphere handed over the Hoorary diploma of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living abroad to the Director of the Russian Centre in Scotland "Haven", head of the Russian Language School at the centre "Haven" Nina Ivashinenko.

Group of students from the Skinners' School visits the Embassy

On 6 December the group of students from the Skinners’ School, who had been selected to represent Russia at the 64th session of the Harvard Model United Nations Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, visited the Russian Embassy in London for a Q& A session with the diplomats from the Foreign policy and the Press sections. The students were briefed on Russia`s position regarding the broad range of issues of the UN agenda.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between SIBUR and Forth Valley College

On 2nd December 2016, the Russian Consul General Mr Andrey Pritsepov and the Lord Provost of Stirling Mr Mike Robbins participated in the solemn signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between Russia’s largest integrated gas processing and petrochemicals company SIBUR and Scotland’s leading educational centre Forth Valley College, which specializes in training of personnel for the oil and gas industry.

On reception for the members of the Hermitage Foundation UK, friends of the Hermitage

On November 30, 2016 a traditional reception for the members of the Hermitage Foundation UK, friends of the Hermitage was held at the Russian Embassy in London. Director of the State Hermitage Professor Mikhail Piotrovsky was a guest of honor.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 25-27 November Attaché of the Embassy Vadim Retyunskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Evans James DAVIS, Mr Luther Howell THOMAS, Mr John STAPLES, Mr Arthur Vernon AVERY, Mr Evan Oswald EVANS and Mr Robert Lloyd OWEN, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

"Battalion" film premiered in London

On 28 November the film Battalion, produced by Igor Ugolnikov, was shown at the London office of Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo. The film tells the tragic story of the First Battalion of Death, a women-only Russian combat unit of WW1, created by the Russian Provisional Government in spring 1917 to bolster the fighting spirit of its war-weary and demoralized troops. Battalion received a number of international film awards.

Slavianski Bazaar in Leeds

On 26 November an international cultural event `Slavianski Bazaar`took place. The event was arranged by the Baltic Slavic community `Baltica`and has already become a traditional annual festival of Russian and other East European communities of Leeds.

Ambassador Yakovenko meets Westminster-Russia Forum

On 23 November, Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko met in Rossotrudnichesto with the representatives of the Westminster-Russia Forum, a British voluntary group promoting a greater cultural, commercial and political understanding between the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation.
