Celebration of the Victory Day in the Northern Scotland

16 May 2016 the the wreaths were laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in Lyness, Isle of Hoy, on the shores of Scapa Flow where the Navy escort for the Convoys was being formed during the war. The memorial co-funded from Russia and Scotland was unveiled in 2009. The inscriptions on the memorial reads: “Dedicated to all those who served on the Arctic Convoys 1941-1945”.

Wreaths laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in Loch Ewe

On 14 May 2016 wreath laying ceremony was held at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in the Cove, Loch Ewe, on the occasion of the 71th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It was Loch Ewe where many vessels that would travel to and from the Soviet Union were stationed during the war.

On the Centenary of Russo-British Chamber of Commerce

On 16 May Russian Ambassador Dr. Alexander Yakovenko and RBCC Patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent took part in the annual Russo-British Chamber of Commerce (RBCC) Business Forum marking its 100 anniversary. Its participants also included high-level representatives of some major banks and companies, including Vneshekonombank, VTB Capital, Volga-Dnepr, BP, Rolls-Royce, TheCityUK, and others.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 17 May Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Bryant James WINTER, Mr Clarence BODY, Mr John ROW, Eric George LEWIS, Mr Kenneth Archer MURREY, Mr Thomas Kenneth HANCOCK and Mr Leslie Ernest COLE,who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Moscow to host World Cities Culture Summit 2016

On 17 May representatives of Moscow and London Mayor Offices signed an agreement in London for this year’s World Cities Culture Summit to be hosted in the Russan capital. The critical importance of culture in a city’s success will be at the top of the agenda when cultural leaders and officials from more than 35 major cities across the globe head to Moscow from 5-7 October.

Russian President sends congratulations on Victory Day to Great Patriotic War veterans in United Kingdom

Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov handed over congratulatory letter of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the Victory Day to the Russian veteran of the Great Patriotic War living in Scotland Natalya I.Black.

Victory Day in Derby

On the 9th May at a ceremony in Derby the representatives of the Russian Embassy presented Ushakov Medals to British veterans, who were awarded these honours for their personal courage and bravery displayed during their service in the Arctic Convoys in WWII.

Wreaths laid at the Dundee International Submarine Memorial in Scotland on the Victory Day

On 9 May 2016 on occasion of the Victory Day the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov and the Deputy Lord Provost of Dundee Christina Roberts laid wreaths at the International Submarine Memorial in Dundee. The memorial commemorates the lost crews of the Allied submarines based in Dundee during the World War II, including the crew of the Soviet submarine V-1 lost in 1944 and the Hero of the Soviet Union, captain II rank I.Fysanovich.

Wreaths laid in Errol at the Memorial to World WarTwo Soviet Pilots in Scotland

On 9 May 2016 at the Errol airfield, Perth and Kinross a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the commemorative plaque dedicated to the secret mission of the Soviet pilots of the Civil Air Fleet’s 1st Air Transportation Division (called Moscow Special Assignment Airgroup, MSAA in 1941-1942, and 10th Guards Air Transportation Division in 1944-1946 ) who were stationed here in 1943-44 to receive the British Albemarle planes.
