The Evening of History & Memories with British Arctic Convoy Veterans at the Churchill College, Cambridge

The Cambridge Russian-Speaking Society held an Evening of History & Memories with British Arctic Convoy Veterans at the historic Churchill College in Cambridge, on Thursday, 24th September.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 25 September Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Richard Binmore JENKINS and Mr Alan BEARDSLEY, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII. On behalf of Mr JENKINS the medal was presented to his son Mr Michael Jenkins.

Delegation of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science attended Nottingham University

On 22 September, the delegation from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation accompanied by the representative of the Russian Embassy in London, counsellor Ernest Chernukhin attended Nottingham University. They met professor Martyn Poliakoff, Foreign Secretary and Vice-President of the Royal Society, academic staff as well Russian scientists. Various issues on best university’s campus management and development to promote an excellent performance in high education were discussed. E.Chernukhin invited the students and professors of the Nottingham university to visit the Russian space exhibition «Cosmonauts: Birth of the space Age» held at the Science Museum London.

On 22 September Attaché of the Embassy Oleg Shor presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Basil Stephen WOOD, Mr Leonard Ernest SCADDAN, Mr Leslie Jack RISHMAN and Mr Peter Richard BURNAND, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

On 18 September Attaché of the Embassy Vadim Retuynskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Colin Leslie SPITTLE and Mr William James CAMP, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

International conference dedicated to Leo Tolstoy was launched in Scotland

On 19 September 2015 an international conference titled "The Wide wide world of Leo Tolstoy", jointly organized by the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, the Moscow Institute of Translation, the State Museum-Estate of Yasnaya Polyana and Moffat Book Events, is launched in the town of Moffat.

Ushakov Medal presented to British veteran of the Arctic Convoys in Northampton

On 18 September Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mrs Elizaveta Vokorina, Attaché of the Russian Embassy, Mr Oleg Shor and Russia's Assistant Naval Attaché Igor Elkin presented Ushakov Medals to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Northampton.

Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh visited Fife

On 16 September 2015 Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov visited Fife at the invitation of Provost Jim Leishman. A range of bilateral projects was discussed as well as potential for establishing twinning links with one of the Russian cities. The Consul General also met representatives of the local business and visited Fife Renewables Innovation Centre in Methil.

Cosmonauts: first Soviet reports on Sputnik - 1 and Yuri Gagarin flight

To celebrate the opening of the “Cosmonauts: birth of the space age” at the London's Science Museum we publish clippings of the first reports from 1957 and 1961 Soviet magazine “Radio” about the launch of Sputnik – 1 satellite and first human spaceflight of Yuri Gagarin.

On reception at the Embassy to mark the opening of the “Cosmonauts: Birth of the Space age” exhibition

On 16 September the Russian Embassy hosted a reception to mark the opening of the “Cosmonauts: Birth of the Space age” exhibition at the Science museum, London. Many distinguished guests were at the reception, including Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space.
