Ushakov medals presented to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Leeds

On 21 October Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy Elizaveta Vokorina, Attaché of the Russian Embassy Mr Oleg Shor, Attaché of the Russian Embassy Elena Gorshkova and Assistant Naval Attaché Commander Dmitry Sharapov presented the Ushakov medals to British veterans of the Arctic Convoys at a ceremony in Leeds.
Participants of the ceremony, which took place at Leeds City Hall, were warmly welcomed by The Lord Mayor of Leeds Gerry Harper. Speaking on behalf of the Russian Government, Mrs Elizabeth Vokorina thanked the veterans for their invaluable contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany.
Over 100 guests, including veterans’ families, representatives of the local authorities and press took part in the ceremony.

Ushakov Medal presented to the Arctic Convoys Veterans

On 13-14 October 2018 Third Secretary of the Embassy Vadim Retyunskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr Geoffrey CONNOR and Mr Frederick PRICE who were awarded this military honour by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in World War II.

Ladies and gentlemen, In today's diverse and multicultural world the importance of language training has become more and more significant. This has a special importance for children from diasporas, including the Russian speaking diaspora in Britain. While living in the English language environment, even kids from families, where Russian is spoken at home, lose language skills without learning Russian at school.
