Ambassador Yakovenko visits the Russian stand at the London Book Fair

2017 is yet another year of large-scale Russian participation in London Book Fair. More than 450 books are presented to the public at stand READ.RUSSIA. Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko took part in the opening of the Russian stand, with the Head of the Russian Federal Agency for press and mass communications Mikhail Seslavinsky.

Evening with Professor Valentina Polukhina: Joseph Brodsky and his heritage

On 13 October Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko took part in the event dedicated to the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, whose prominent scholar Professor Valentina Polukhina has donated her archive of Brodsky papers to the museum of the poet in his native St Petersburg. The evening was hosted by the Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo and featured talks by Prof. Polukhina, Director of the Museum Mikhail Milchik, deputy editor of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Yury Lepsky, museum volunteer poet Arina Bedrina and the film about Brodsky "A cat and a half".

Memorable gifts presented to Scottish Veterans of Arctic Convoys

On 28th September 2017, the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov visited two WWII Veteranы who took part in the Arctic Convoys, Mr Ernest Robertson and Mr William Robertson Mckay. They both received a set of memorable gifts created on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the first Arctic Convoy calling Archangelsk.

Collector’s edition of the Illustrated Chronicles of Ivan the Terrible presented to University of Glasgow

On 15th September 2017 at the celebrations of the centenary of the Russian studies at the University of Glasgow on the instructions of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sergey Lavrov Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Mr Andrey A.Pritsepov presented the Illustrated Chronicles of Ivan the Terrible also known as the “Tsar Book” to the University of Glasgow. In his speech Mr Pritsepov said that this literary masterpiece provided a rare opportunity for the contemporaries to reopen the turbulent history of antiquity, exploring it through the eyes of a 16th-century scholar.

On 15-17 September 2017 large celebrations were held at the University of Glasgow dedicated to the centenary of Russian studies at this honorable higher education institution.
