Сonference dedicated to the Centenary of Russian studies at the University of Glasgow

On 15-17 September 2017 large celebrations were held at the University of Glasgow dedicated to the centenary of Russian studies at this honorable higher education institution.
At the official opening ceremony Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh, Andrey A.Pritsepov read out a welcome message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov to the guests and participants of the conference, which highlighted «multiple economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, rooted deep into the centuries» between our countries. The address in reply by Deputy First Minister of Scotland John Swinney says: «Intertwinned connections between Scotland and Russia remain, ranging from truly historic in the sharing of Saint Andrew as a patron saint, through to our common bond surrounding the Arctic Convoys and the work conducted today to commemorate this».
A rare collection of the Illustrated Chronicles of Ivan the Terrible also known as the "Tsar-book", was presented to the University.
The high point of the jubilee program was an academic conference. Famous Russian writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya and translator Elena Kostyukovich were honoured guests of the Conference.
A number of seminars, exhibitions, lectures and other events devoted to various aspects of the cultural heritage of Russia as well as historical ties between Scotland and Russia were held on the margins of the conference, including the showcase of the famous Slavonic collection of the University.

On 2-3 December Third Secretary of the Embassy Vadim Retyunskiy presented the Ushakov medals to the Arctic Convoys veterans Mr David DOUGLAS, Mr George LANE, Mr Michael LOCKE and Mr Raymond BILBIE, who were awarded this military honour by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation for their personal courage and bravery displayed in WWII.

Reception to mark the Russian Film Week at the Russian Embassy

24 November 2017 the Embassy hosted the reception to mark the Russian Film Week 2017. The film festival, launched but a year ago, is a major success and became the most popular among the foreign film festivals in London.

Students of Russian school "Znaniye" presented exams certificates at the Russian Embassy

On 13 November 2017 the Embassy hosted the presentation of A-levels exams certificates to the students of the educational centre Znaniye (Knowledge). The Embassy donated a set of books in Russian to the students.

On 12 November 2017 a traditional ceremony of wreath laying took place at the Soviet War Memorial in London, near the Imperial War Museum.

Poetry festival Pushkin in Britain launched at the Embassy

On 20 October 2017 the traditional Russian poetry and culture festival "Pushkin in Britain" was launched at the Russian Embassy in London. The Embassy reception included a poetry slam. Evening with Professor Valentina Polukhina: Joseph Brodsky and his heritage

On 13 October Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko took part in the event dedicated to the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, whose prominent scholar Professor Valentina Polukhina has donated her archive of Brodsky papers to the museum of the poet in his native St Petersburg. The evening was hosted by the Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo and featured talks by Prof. Polukhina, Director of the Museum Mikhail Milchik, deputy editor of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Yury Lepsky, museum volunteer poet Arina Bedrina and the film about Brodsky "A cat and a half".
