Victory Day celebrated in Britain

The 70th Anniversary of Allied Victory in Europe and the contribution of the peoples of the former Soviet Union will be celebrated in Britain.

 

From 4 to 6 of May a free screening of Soviet war films (English subtitles) will be held at Russian Cultural Centre «Rossotrudnichestvo» in London.

4 May 18:30 – “Clear Skies”

5 May 18:30 – “Only Old Men Are Going to Battle”

6 May 18:30 – “They Fought for Their Country” 

 

4 May - 13:00 a remembrance ceremony will be held in Manchester at the Cenotaph (St. Peter’s Sq.).

5 May - representatives of the Defence Attaché’s office of the Embassy will lay flowers to the graves of Soviet servicemen in Tidworth, Shoftsbury, Aldershot. If you wish to join them, please contact us (press@rusemb.org.uk), and we will send you details on the exact time of memorial ceremonies and location of the graves..

6 May -  representatives of the Defence Attaché’s office of the Embassy will lay flowers to the graves of Soviet servicemen in Leeds, Chester, Liverpool, Harrogate, Huddersfield. 7 May at 7.00pm - an exhibition of rare Grand Alliance posters from the Second World War will be held at Russian Cultural Centre «Rossotrudnichestvo» in London. It is a part of the “Edges of Victory” project. Free entry.

 

From 7 of May till 11 of June the exhibition of photographer James Hill – “Russian Veterans” will be held at Pushkin House in London. Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer James Hill, who has lived and worked in Russia since the 1990s, went to Gorky Park on Victory Day for four consecutive years and photographed over 500 veterans in a makeshift studio he built.  15 of the pictures will be on display at this exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.  

 

9 May at 9:30am memorial service will be held at Russian Orthodox Church Cathedral in London. (Adress: 67 Ennismore Gardens, London, SW7 1NH)

9 May at 11.00am flowers will be laid at the Soviet War Memorial near the Imperial War Museum in London (adress: Lambeth Road, London SE1 6HZ).

Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in Great Patriotic War in Scotland

 

A number of events will be held in Scotland to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in Great Patriotic War in Scotland in May 2015

 

On 7 May, 1PM, wreaths will be laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in the Cove, Loch Ewe, Ross-shire (Memorial location:http://goo.gl/maps/HWLvN ).

 

On 9 May, 11AM, wreaths will be laid to the Dundee International Submarine Memorial (Memorial location: http://goo.gl/maps/cVn3x). The Memorial is dedicated to the crews of the Allied submarines that were based in Dundee during the World War II and were lost at sea, including a Soviet submarine V-1.

 

On 9 May, 3PM, ‘The 70th Anniversary of the Victory in Great Patriotic War’ will be presented to the Scottish Veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Glasgow; the festive concert will follow at 5PM.

 

On 12 May, 11AM, wreaths will be laid at the Arctic Convoys Memorial in Lyness, Isle of Hoy, Orkney (Memorial location:http://goo.gl/maps/LxL6t).

 

On 15 May, 11AM, the exhibition ‘Russians in Scotland’ will be opened at the

Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre. The exhibition will tell the story of the group of the Soviet Pilots who were based in Scotland in 1943.

 

On 16 May, 12PM, the memorial plaque will be unveiled at the Errol airfield to commemorate the Soviet Pilots who were based in Scotland in 1943 (Airfield location:http://goo.gl/maps/Vkwhz).

06.08.2015 - Russian Embassy comments on Foreign Office spokeswoman’s misleading statement

The Foreign Office made two misleading statements to the Daily Telegraph. It says that "visas for diplomats posted to the Russian Embassy in London are issued in line with arrangements agreed with Russia". The fact is that the bilateral memorandum in force between the two countries on visa issues of 1989 provides for visas for staff members of diplomatic missions to be issued within thirty days. It is not observed by the British side, the average waiting time reaching 5 and a half months.

05.08.2015 - Comment by press-secretary of the Embassy on a Russian citizen detention in a London airport

The Embassy has received information from a Russian citizen who, having read our travel advice of 3 August, 2015, has told us about her recent experience in a London airport, previously unknown to the Embassy. The Russian national was detained by the immigration authorities before crossing the border controls. The Home Office Border Force took interest in additional information regarding the purpose of visit of the Russian citizen, knowledge of Arabic and whether or not she visited Arab countries.

Following the passing away of former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov a formal book of condolences has been opened at the Embassy.
