Russian Ministry of Healthcare Activities: Summing up Results for 2014

Preventive medical care development has reached an unprecedented level

RF Ministry of Healthcare has implemented a strategy to encourage the population of Russia to adopt a healthy lifestyle.  It includes the following elements:

the adoption of "anti-smoking" Act,  has led to 17-19% reduction in the number of smokers over the period since 2008, according to independent research data;

 normative regulation of alcohol market enabled the reduction of alcohol consumers by 30% over the period since 2008;

raising sports' popularity: the numbers of adults and children involved in sports activities have raised by 2.5 and 3.5 times respectively;

RF Ministry of Healthcare dietary guidelines: contributed to the promotion of healthy eating habits: today, 75% of women and 72% of men consume warm meals daily.

Mass screening of the population

In 2013, the national mass screening programme was revived, a programme of targeted diagnostic screenings, so far undergone by more than 75 million people. In 2014, 40.1 million people underwent the screening, including 22.4 million adults and 17.7 million children. 

Thanks to the newly adopted regulations, the mass screening is not a mere formality: cancer detection rate has increased by 50-70%, including common forms, such as breast and prostate cancer (by  9% and 18% respectively), colorectal and stomach cancer(by 10% and 16% respectively) and respiratory system cancer (by 6%). 72% of the diseases were identified at stage 1.

The active early (stages 1-2) detection of malignant neoplasms of female reproductive system has increased from 50 to 70-80%, which has preserved the lives of more than 15 thousand women who received timely medical care.

Life expectancy is increasing

In 2014, life expectancy amounted to 71 year, 0.2 year higher compared to 2013  (in 2013 -70.76 years);  the increase was by 0.3 year in men (65.41 v. 65.13 years in 2013), and by 0.2 year in women (76.53 v. 76.30 years  in 2013). For the first time in the past few years the birth rate increased and the death rate  decreased, among the working-age population at that. After the adoption of the international standards in 2013, the mortality rate has dropped to 8.2; in 2014, it was a little more than 7 per 1,000 and in the first two months of the current year - 6.3 per 1,000. It amounts to over 20% as compared to 2012.

06.08.2015 - Russian Embassy comments on Foreign Office spokeswoman’s misleading statement

The Foreign Office made two misleading statements to the Daily Telegraph. It says that "visas for diplomats posted to the Russian Embassy in London are issued in line with arrangements agreed with Russia". The fact is that the bilateral memorandum in force between the two countries on visa issues of 1989 provides for visas for staff members of diplomatic missions to be issued within thirty days. It is not observed by the British side, the average waiting time reaching 5 and a half months.

05.08.2015 - Comment by press-secretary of the Embassy on a Russian citizen detention in a London airport

The Embassy has received information from a Russian citizen who, having read our travel advice of 3 August, 2015, has told us about her recent experience in a London airport, previously unknown to the Embassy. The Russian national was detained by the immigration authorities before crossing the border controls. The Home Office Border Force took interest in additional information regarding the purpose of visit of the Russian citizen, knowledge of Arabic and whether or not she visited Arab countries.
