Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s congratulatory message on Russia Day

Dear compatriots!

I sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of Russia Day! Today all of us can share the feeling of being a part of a great nation, our home country that we love and feel proud of. This celebration is a symbol of common destiny of the Russian people who lived in peace and harmony throughout centuries. We need to carefully preserve this great heritage, remember the lessons of the past and stand up to the modern challenges. It is important to hear and respect each other, aim for mutual understanding and compromise.

Today Russia, like many other countries in Europe and the world, is on an obstacle course due to the pandemic. New realities emerge. We see not only human losses but also a great hit to the economies and in some cases even increased tensions between states. We can overcome these difficulties quicker and more effectively by working together and helping each other, rather than trying to separate the world into friends and foes, like we see in some cases.

Russia is beginning to rise above these challenges. The country’s progressive development will continue. The state will continue to care for the well-being of its citizens and be a responsible player on the international arena.

I would like to thank everyone who maintains their links with Russia, working passionately and using their knowledge and skills to preserve and promote Russian language, the cultural heritage and spiritual values of our nation.

Everyone is well aware of the genuine Russian cultural and literature masterpieces, the unique scientific discoveries, which clearly demonstrate true love of their creators to the Fatherland. That is why we see State Awards being presented on this day for outstanding achievements in science and technology, literature, art and humanitarian activities.

Russia is ready to share its achievements with the world community, including the UK, as our relations are based on the firm basis of historic, business, cultural and basic human-to-human relations.

Dear friends, the current circumstances do not allow us to duly celebrate this glorious day, yet I am convinced that the good times will soon come. I would like to wish you all well-being and reaching new ambitious goals!

I am absolutely sure that there is nothing impossible for Russia and for the Russian people!

Thank you for your attention.

Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s address on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first human spaceflight

Dear friends! 60 years ago Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to fly into space. We are rightfully proud of the fact that this scientific and technological breakthrough has been accomplished by our country. Yuri Gagarin made an invaluable contribution to the development of space exploration as well as international humanitarian cooperation. The spaceflight turned him into a true hero not only at home but also around the world. This is why the UN announced 12 April to be the International Day of Human Spaceflight.

Ambassador Andrei Kelin's address at the international conference «A Decade of War in Syria», 15 March 2021

This month marks 10 years since the beginning of the “Arab Spring” in Syria. What had been peaceful rallies at first, was quickly fuelled by the significant foreign interference and within several months had grown up into fierce clashes with the government forces. Later it paved the way for a full-scale civil war. The dire situation was further aggravated when ISIL and a number of other terrorist groups conquered significant part of the country’s territory, causing even more unbearable damage to the economy, infrastructure, human and cultural legacy of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Ambassador Andrei Kelin's address on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Ladies and gentlemen! Dear friends! Today, the Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked worldwide. 76 years ago the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army. Regrettably, due to the coronavirus restrictions, we cannot meet at the Soviet War Memorial like we would normally do. Nevertheless, it is essential for all of us to remember one of the darkest, most tragic and shameful chapters in the history of mankind. It is a powerful reminder of the perils of discrimination and intolerance, of just how catastrophic and barbaric the incitement to racial hatred can be.

Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s address on the occasion of installing the memorial to the Soviet pilots in Errol, Scotland

Dear friends! Today, on 11th November, Remembrance Day, the memorial to the Soviet pilots has been installed in Errol, Scotland, also commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II. I would like to say a few words about that episode of the war. The Soviet Union desperately needed airplanes, and in 1943, in the heat of the bloody battles, the British Government passed over a number of twin-engine Albemarle bombers. To perform the secret task of transporting them, a group of pilots from the Moscow special air group have come to the airbase in Errol in 1943 where they joined the RAF 305 Squadron, formed to prepare Soviet aircrew.
